My mum was recently contacted by a claims company who said her bank has increased her credit card limit without her consent and she is applicable for making a claim against them. She's usually very sceptical about such things, but does admit it sounded convincing. Is it a load of cobblers, or a genuine chance to show the banks they are abusing their power and she's not happy with that?

Depends how much she likes compo, and taking personal responsibility for her life.

Not at all a compo type, the point being she hasn't knowingly agreed to any credit limit changes and hasn't used her credit card in years.

So what exactly would she be claiming for? What loss has been suffered?

I'd probably be checkIng the CC T&C's - it will probably be in there that they can raise or reduce as they see fit.

Usually the banks notify you and say if you DON'T want it increased tell them ASAP.

Even so, can't see what the problem is, she hasn't suffered any financial loss, unless her card has been cloned or stolen and used.

Yeah, she's dismissing it on exactly these grounds. Absolutely no losses at all from this, so usual claims company nonsense.

If you are the type of person who spends on their card without checking how much they've spent, it could be an issue. But those people are morons.

Its similar to offering a fat person sweets then? They don't have to take them, but if they do its my fault they ate them because I offered them?

They don't, they just target enough people and by the law of averages they will get someone who has.

Same as these clowns who phone up and tell you that you have a virus on your PC

Alls scams and just ignore although you can have some fun leading them along :-)
