I've got a flat spot (Defender TD5)
Discussion
Hi all - recently my TD5 defender has started demonstrating a flat spot when accelerating....seems to happen roughly between 30 and 50 mph and from what I can tell mostly when going up hill (but not totally convinced by that)....
So I'd be accelerating up a hill and at a certain point the engine stops accelerating (no matter what I do with the 'fast' pedal) and then starts to die off a bit. Changing down cures it.
No engine management lights come on...and it doesn't happen every drive.
What causes that then?

My Disco TD5 does something similar. First thing is to unplug the ECU and check whether the connector is full of oil - the wiring loom can leak oil down the cables to the connector causing misfiring issues. Mine was fine. Next thing to check was the wastegate actuator to ensure it's not stuck - which is wasn't. So on to the wastegate modulator which I replaced. Then a new MAF sensor on the basis of the fault codes being thrown up.
