Urgent : ---> 245's on a 500 Chimaera(16")?

Rear 245x45x16 are fitted as standard at the rear on Chim 500's when fitted with power steering.
not quiet true - 245/45-16 are fitted on the rear of 500s regardless of whether PAS fitted or not. Different sizes are fitted on the front depending on whether PAS is fitted:
non-PAS is 205/55-15
PAS is 225/50-15
the only reason that narrower tyres are fitted to the front without PAS is to make the steering lighter, especially at parking speeds. I know because my 500 hasn't got PAS and the girlfriend hates parking it - its never bothered me.

Would 245's fit on the standard Chimaera 500 alloys (rear 16")?
If so what are the drawbacks/advantages?
Damo
yes - 245s will fit on the rears as regadless of the wheel style 5/7 spokes, they are the same dimensions. As for advantages - they offer more grip in the wet/dry. Disadvantages are that the 245s cost more. It's your choice, you could even fit 225/50-15 on the front as well, but that depends if you have PAS fitted.

P.S. I do think that if you fit 245 on the rear then it has to be 225 on the front so that the car looks right. As we all know it dosen't matter if the car handles like a bag of sh*t, is really hard to steer etc, So long as it looks right![]()
225 fronts even better on 16" wheels a la Griff100 - and my Chim

I've got 245/45/16s on the rear and 205/50/15s on the front of my 1995 PAS 4.0 Chimaera. Slightly smaller contact patch at the front I find balances the car nicely for four-wheel drifts on the track and minimises oversteer on the road.
Works for me, anyhow. Probably doesn't look as good, though...

Have just logged on after a quick blast whilst the roads were dry
.
quinny ; I have power steering, the front tyres are 225 x45x16 (as per last Griffs) which have virtually the same rolling radius as 225x50x15.
Handling was brilliant before and still is (once the new S03's were worn in
!).
Obviously a 1" in increase in front wheel dia and only a 5% decrease in aspect ratio isnt extreme enough to make much handling difference either way
-just looks good IMHO
.
16"fronts are a very subtle mod, most people (including hardcore TIVosi),dont notice the new front wheels anyway
.
Next mod 20" TSW Venoms on part worn remoulds

I have fitted 225s to the front of my non-PAS 500, but didn't know what difference it is going to make, so I am reassured that you find it OK.
I replaced all my wheels after taking chunks out of them in an offroad excursion (ouch), and got a set off a PAS car with almost new S02's.
I'll cut back on my curls at the gym to compensate for the heavier parking speed steering, don't want to overtrain the biceps!
