Security System function and position

Just bought a Griff and playing arround fitting a few things - shocks and brakes. But having a problem with the security system after filling up at petrol station just would not start.Pushing fob with key in simply locked/unlocked car and would not start. Just after phoning for help suddenly worked OK. Notice alarm siren dosent work either. There is a small key on the keyring which may be to turn the system on & off - am I right and if so where is it??

Any help/ideas appreciated.

The slot for the alarm key isn’t far from the ignition, when I first got mine I kept trying to put the ignition key in the alarm slot.

As for the sounder, unfortunately they are not that water proof and do tend to cause a few problems if not kept dry. I use a plastic bag and elastic band, on my third sounder now.

TMS supplied the last one, they where about £40 though this was a couple of years ago. If search PH I think you’ll find an alternative supplier I’m sure I’ve seen one mentioned in the past.

Not sure if this will help as I own an early Grif. I have a fob with a button which activates the alarm and central locking, I then have a 'bomb' on my keyring. This bomb is a transducer which activates the immobiliser and the car won't start without it.

I am rebuilding mine and at present I've took out the immobilisor as it had caused me some probs when the car got damp. I also had quite a few problems getting the sequence correct after attaching the battery (battery flattened many times during rebuild).

Anyway, I would get out the car lock everything and start again SLOWLY and taking care to note that the LEDS were switch off correctly, I would then turn key in the ignition and listen for the fuel pump kicking in - this would show me that I had got the sequence correct - if I couldn't hear the fuel pump I would start again. I know that the immobiliser controls the fuel pump and I also know they have been problomatic in the past..............but as you will come to realise there are also many other things that can stop the car starting. I joined a couple of months ago and used the search facility to look for strings like 'won't start' etc and this showed many other posible areas of failure.......best bet is to listen for that fuel pump....bets of luck!!!

Guess the alarm sounder might simply have packed up. Any you are right one gets into a bit of a panic when this sort of thin happens so best to go thruogh it sloooooowly - good advice.

However am aware of the"electronic key" near the ignition switch. The keyring that came with the car (previous owner abroad just now and no tel number)had multple small keys just like a case key and a Chim owner said it probably turned the alarm unit on and off as his did. The Chim alarm unit is in the front but cant find it on the Griff - its presumably a box I am looking for not the sounder??

Any ideas or am I off track.
