Kind of. We kill 100s if not 1000s of cows every day just to eat beef. We don't technically have to eat beef. I'd say most of the time we're doing it because we enjoy it, and not through any nutritional requirement. So lot's of animals die for our entertainment anyway.

What we should do is ensure that they are treated well up to the point of death. And in general I'd say race horses are but that this is due to the efforts of those involved in the sport, and they should be kept focussed on that effort by people openly discussing the issues involved.

As an outsider though I can't see how I can criticise the racing community, when I choose to have animals killed for my own (food) entertainment. I would hate to see the horse wasted though. Mince it up and put it in a sausage for the next meeting or something. lick
