New member signing up to PH, some pics of my current daily driver.

Both look nice, is there much of a difference in the way they drive, always had a soft spot for the IS, what does COMMAND mean.

It COMMANDS you to park no closer than 1 foot from the kerb

to be serious though, I am considering the very same car. Care to share your thoughts on it as a daily? I do a lot of shortish town driving.

Is that what it is, I thought the op was using the Lexus as a kind of car to kerb shuttle

Both nice DD's but I just cant stand the Merc interior prior to the recent facelift.

The Mercedes system is called COMAND.

COMMAND stands for Cockpit Management and Data system, according to Mercedes. The screen in the middle allows you to control the audio, phone system, sav nav etc. It's a similar system to the BMW idrive system?

To answer a few q's: The C220CDI is a good daily driver, perfect balance of power (170bhp) and economy. I'm averaging 39mpg on a local run, however this increases to 50mpg on a motorway run- not bad for a 2.2 diesel with an auto box.

Yeah, the post-lift C Class has the better dash, but my budget didn't stretch to a post face-lift car. TBH, the advantage of the pre face-lift car that has the COMMAND screen is that the screen folds away into the dash when it's not in use- a good security feature, I think

I looked at all the usual suspects (325d, 330d, A4 2.0TDI S Line, IS220D etc)- the C220 CDI Sport was the best car for my needs.

My old IS200 was a good motor, I miss it very much. I owned the IS for 8 years and I did 100K in that car under my ownership, when I sold the IS it had 145K on the clock. Downside to the IS200 is that it was thirsty on petrol- 24mpg on the local run. Shame the new IS range isn't as good as the old shape.

As for parking a bit far from the kerb, it's not as bad as the picture makes out- before I bought the C220CDI (as a MB approved used car), the dealer refurbised the alloys, so I didn't want to kerb the refurbised alloys

Thanks for your comment. I've put 16k since I bought it (12 months ago). Other than having a major service at the supplying MB dealer last November, it's been a great motor so far.

I'll be needing a set of front tyres soon- the original Michelins have done 38k- anyone care to recommend a decent brand of tyre? 225/45/17 is what I am after. Thanks.

39 on a local run...hmm, I think I'll stick to petrol then. I can see diesels getting cheaper to buy if the price difference in fuel continues to rise.

I thought so. It's something I'm always getting ribbed for..'shall I get a taxi to the kerb'. You were ripe for a bit of payback.
