Soundbar or 2:1 speakers

Dont spend much time watching TV but my 37" flatscreen sound quality is a bit of a distraction ie listen to how tinny it is.
So with say a budget of £100 would it be better to purchase say the Sharp soundbar http://www.froogle.richersounds.com/product/soundb...
or a 2:1 loudspeaker system?
Aim is to get more depth to the sound

For 100 I would get some JBL Soundsticks.

Or go used and get a used Cambridge Audio stereo amp and a pair of bookshelf speakers.
