Short Dual Carriageways?

Up in the North East there seems to be a MAHOOSIVE amount of speed traps around at the moment.

I was just coming home from work and noticed a speed van with two officers standing outside with a hand held speed gun. Normally, this is fine. I don't speed, so I'm never worried.

Today they were positioned on a road I've never seen them on where a single 60MPH road turns into a double. I always go to 70 as soon as the road turns double... I was even told it was a 70 by my (slightly mental) driving instructor.

However, never seeing them on this road before I'm panicking now thinking that maybe not all dual carriage sections of road are actually 70 and I've just been clocked going 70 in a 60!?!? She seemed to turn and talk to her mate and put the gun down when I went past. I was definitely only doing 70mph

I was always told dual are 70 no matter how short they are unless they have a specific sign. This road does not, it has national speed limit signs at the start of the 60 stretch.

Is it Dual carriageway or a 4lane single? As in is there a central reservation if there is it should be 70mph.

The national speed limit on dual carriageways is 70mph, so if there's a central reservation and no posted limit it's 70.

Don't think there's a requirement for a barrier, just a physical separation of the carriageways.

They are not getting you because you don't know the speed limits!

That road is 70mph, a central reservation rather than a barrier is what makes it a DC. If it were a painted solid or pair of solid white lines it would be 60mph

If he drives everywhere at 10mph under the limit he wont get caught though, will he.

I took it both here and in SA.

No idea where i got the idea that no barrier means 60 but hey if its the case so be it.

Couldn't convert at the time. Conversion was only allowed a year or three after i arrived. To be honest was quite happy to do so as there were things to learn.

I had thought it was a 70 as again I was always told so and by my instructor.

I still think pointing a gun at an area where a single turns into a double is pretty shoddy personally and a bit disposable by the plod in the end.
