All,

Advice appreciated! I had the alloys on my BMW M3 (E46) refurbed a few weeks ago. I had a flat on Tuesday and yesterday went to get what I assumed was a puncture swapped for a new tyre. The fitters could not see any damaged and told me the valve was leaking. They repaired this FOC and off I went. This morning the tyre is flat again.

I guess the next step is to try a new tyre anyway and see if that holds pressure, so I am off to the garage again as soon as they open. However it occurred to me that if the tyre is OK and the valve has been changed could the alloy be leaking? Given it is a few weeks after the refurb with no problem I guess it is unlikely there is any link.

Anyone more knowledgeable than I care to offer an opinion/advice?

Can a leaking allow be repaired? Anyone with the same wheel had experience?

Thanks in advance.

Must be leaking from somewhere.. Put plenty of pressure in it then chuck it in the bath and look for bubbles.

Only thing I can think is they've not left it very smooth on the tyre bead causing air to escape.

You're alloy refurb, was it face only or was it a full refurb? I ask because i was getting flat tyres due to corrosion on the inside edge of the alloy which was causing random flats with no damage to the tyre.

I had a full refurb done and the problem seems to have been cured.

Remove the wheel and blow it up.

then either stick it in a bath of water or paint it with soapy water to find the leak

It was a full refurb tyre off. Off to tyre place in a few minutes but will try the bath test if I have no joy with them.

Normally I can work from home if something like this happens, sods law its a day I need to be somewhere! Must get a spare wheel/tyre to stick in the garage for emergencies.

Take the wheel off, lie it flat on the floor and pour water with a bit of detergent where the tyre meets the rim and look for bubbles. Turn the wheel over and repeat.

False alarm. The garage muppets missed (what I think was) a quite obvious hole. Now sorted!
