Or rather, 'any lights on at all in fog, anyone'? I live and commute in Nottingham where the standard of courtesy on the roads isn't great (no-one lets me out of junctions in a V70 - hate to think what it would be like in my Fezza 599) but the number of buffoons driving in this morning without any lights on whatsoever beggars belief.

So many people whinge about excessive use of fog lights when there's no fog - how about some lights when there is???

Rant rant to close.

And calm.

I expect it's down to people's laziness around using automatic lights - if it's not dark enough then the lights won't come on. I noticed that Jag XFs seem to be afflicted by this (saw 3, none of which had lights on), but a few VW's too.

Believe me, most of the unlit gin palaces were too old to possess automatic lights!

I've often wondered whether automatic lights would make this more common, but from the evidence that I've seen over the years I've been driving, people are generally stupid enough to do moronic things without technology helping them along.

I'm sure automatic lights don't help, though.

Baffling. And when you flash them after they magicially appear infront of you, they just gormlessly stare at you.
ALL of the cars I saw with no lights were either young women (17-25) or middle aged men in their boring german company repmobiles.

Although this is a pretty cringey "I own a so and so thread".

I am starting to believe all cars should have their headlights on at all time, especially silver ones.

Driving from Lightwater to Woking this morning - I was shocked at how many cars had no lights on at all - and yes, they were all silver.

Great idea! They could call them, errr.... daytime driving lights! I vote you for Prime Minister.

I often find this as well in my BMW - hate to think what it would be like if I was driving the Aventador I've recently purchased as a result of my powerfully built company director status.

The Aventador's lights are disappointing. I owned four but the lights were the last straw.

It's this and not using indicators which wind me up.

It was really foggy a couple of weeks ago, a good thick pea-souper, and yet you had people in fog coloured cars with zero lights on, in the fog.

Is it selfishness were they think "I can see" so that's that, it doesn't matter about anyone else being able to see them. It was this which brought me round to DRL's, bring them on I say, because if the majority of numbties can't manage to turn a light on, the state will enforce lights upon us.

I got caught out out a give way, I was just about to pull out when a C1 emerged from the fog, speeding as well.

I caught the car up a couple of minutes later at a 2nd junction, looked over and it was a young girl, texting! grrr, and they moan about insurance being expensive.

DRLs don't solve the problem because in fog, rear lights are probably more important than front ones and rear lights don't tend come on with DRLs (never understood why that is, really).

True, I didn't think of that.

It's going to help a bit though, as in my situation I couldn't see an approaching car.
