hi, most people cut open the silencer & replace the perforated pipes inside with solid pipe. then re-weld the silencer casing back up. some have said to put the wadding back in the box to stop resonance. if thats too loud then you could weld a couple of cherry bomb type silencers inside the original box. think theres a few topics about it on here.(if the search works)

1" 7/8 tube you dont even need to weld it in. All the ones I've done have been tapped in with a mallet then fold the existing tube on the outside round then weld the end back on. I would leave the wadding in too.

I really do want to do this too mine - as much as I love the car I was a little disappointed its almost reserved its so quiet with all the standard bits still in place.
Is it true the pre-cats can be ripped/broken out while the manifold is still in situ?
I have to do something soon - sleeving is also a possiblity but on a tight budget as always so unless I can DIY it I might have to wait.
Its a pre serp 1993 4.0
cheers

i had mine sleeved a few weeks ago! i get this whistling sound in and above 2500rpm and beyond! at first was great but sounds like i have a turbo charged V8, had it done in Thatcham in berkshire for only 40. very affordable. Im actually having another exhaust sleeved today to give me more grunt so the turbo sounding exhaust will be no longer useful for me...

no worries phil, i got fed up with the local boys in blue stepping out with their speed guns about 1/2 a mile before i got there... the act system is still loud but a lot deeper/throatier sounding. driving

The buggers keep doing that to me down Milford Hill or along Tollgate Road in Salisbury - they do look so dissapointed when I'm under the limit. hehe
