I was wondering about the use of the new BMW Mini Cooper S turbo engine and using this in Seven rep/locost? You can get these engines for about 1600 and electrics etc, but I was wondering to fit this into Seven rep/locost (apart from the usual engine mounts being in different places):

What gear box do you think you could use with this?
I'm guessing you'd need an engine gearbox adaptor (doubt one would exist), how much do you reckon this would cost?

Probably a great engine but its very square so to clear steering columns, chassis rails etc there's be a lot of moving ancillaries perhaps, reworking manifolds etc.

At least nothing sits over the rocker cover so bonnet height shouldn't be an issue.

Its the PSA engine so used in fords, citroens, peugeot and minis to name a few, so nothing fancy in the mini as such. Quite a compact engine, but as said, not sure on adaptor for rear wheel drive as yet......

The Corsa VRX engine is used in westfield if im not mistaken.... Might be worht a look if only for ideas.

One thing about the MINI unit is it is direct injection. not sure what aftermarket ECUs can run it.

If it's a one-off, and you don't make it yourself, ***-king expensive in my experience hehe

Think getting on for a grand.
