Anyone going through just have a look as you come over the bridge on the A166 from York. They have erected a new set of odd looking cameras on the right hand side near the traffic lights - they look similar to what are on level crossings for trains, but wondered what they were? They look permanant, rather than something there temporarily....

They are black and there are about 3-4 units - one looking straight down at the front of the where the Stop line is...

Really curious as to their purpose!!

traffic light sensor units I would have thought as digging up the road to fit the other type of sensors may damage the bridge.

Could be red light cameras, but if they are a notice should be placed before approaching the traffic lights, or simply as stated before sensors.

Piece in the York Press tonight.

Supposedly put there by Council to record any damage by vehicles hitting the bridge - following previous expensive repairs. Will allow them to recover repair costs from vehicle insurers, if I read the article correctly. Therefore self financing in the long run.

Also at Bubwith bridge, as weight restrictions have been lifted on the bridges, after repairs.

Thanks guys...

They are proper big units - not the little ones like the Bridge @ Sutton...

Seems the most likely option though!
