So, shortly fitting new alloy rad. As my car is non a/c it currently only has one fan. I have ordered another as the new rad has room for 2 and I guess 2 is better than 1! It would appear there is a spare plug on my car for a second fan, but the question is....... will the ECU be setup already for running 2 fans (ie the second coming on at the higher temp), or will I need to 'upgrade' the ECU? Anyone??

Should be easy enough to tell with a meter!

I'm not a major techy but if it were me I'd connect a meter up to that spare wire whilst watching the ecu on a laptop just to see what happens to the fans at the differing temps. Someone is sure to give a much better approach and info. I hope!

Download the easimap software and you can switch the rad fans on and measure the voltage at plug to be sure it is working.

You could disconnect the temp sensor, this will switch on both fans by default, then plug the fan in and you'll soon know.

I didn't think that the downloadable version of easimap worked with the TVR version of the MBE?

Ah not sure then i downloaded while out here at work and have been playing with it for the last couple of weeks but still to try to connect it to the car, I found the unlock passwords for it as well. But if it has been tried before i might be wasting my time but worth a try.

For info i've had an ally rad in mine running only on 1 fan and never had a problem with cooling, even now with the 6.2 LS3 it copes very well.

You don't need a meter just do as I mentioned above. Switch the fan plugs and away you go.

Easimap doesn't work with the TVR MBE ECUs.

Easy map does work with my ECU but you need the cable with the resistors in it.

I installed a second fan in my 4.2 a few years ago- Pretty much plug and play. Bought the fan from a breaker, bolted it onto the rad, plugged it into the connector which is ready and waiting and it worked. It is a while ago, so my memory is not 100%, but I THINK I had to install a relay into the appropriate position on the fuse board in the boot- check the owner's manual- it will show a relay on the fuse board for each fan. I think one position was empty so I just popped a relay in. I might be getting confused with a fan upgrade I carried out on my old Griff...

Thanks for the heads up, will have a look and see if I need a relay. Also just realised my typo on the thread title, DOH!

You mean you can actually use Easimap 5 and change variables within the calibration?

Or are you just using the software written for TVR to rear variables and reset adaptive values? wink

Yes Ridd's you can make changes, I didn't mess about with it but did copy maps to my laptop.

Can you do me a screen dump? I can't et my head round this one. laugh Have you got a standard ECU?

The memory in the standard MBE for the Cerbera does not allow the alteration of the map values etc. It is a one time write chip and cannot be re-programmed.

Easimap can be used to read the configuration file that comes with the TVR mapping software and thus display the various parameters.

Mapping of the TVR ECU is generally done either using an EPROM emulator or by reading the EPROM into a file, changing it and then burning back to a new EPROM.

Without suitable magic Easimap cannot make changes directly to the standard TVR ECU

If you are able to make changes then it must be a non-standard ECU

I seem to remeber MBE advertising ECU upgrades to update them to a normal configuration. Maybe its had such an upgrade.
