Trip to Spa Belgium - Suggestions
Discussion
This year along with some other Petrolheads we were thinking of going to Spa in June to the 12 hour or Classic event to make a change from Le Mans, perhaps taking in the Nurburgring afterwards.
Does anyone have any experience of this trip and suggest some good roads, places to visit en route, best crossing points etc
Also for the Spa circuit itself, accomodation options inside or oustide the circuit, best vistas to watch the action etc
Any info appreciated

I've done the Spa 6hrs a couple of times now..
Twice in the Chim and once in my Tuscan.
I'd almost say you're guided to cross on the tunnel, and then you've got a 4 hour drive to the Spa area, sticking to the motorways. I'd guess that there are camping sites (in fact there is) around Spa itself. Else, go onto trip advisor and there are a few cheap'ish hotels around (ca: 50 euro b&b per night).
Another contact is www.aeaventures.com who I stayed with last time. Neil (the owner) is more 'bike focused but the accomodation is reasonable, but basic - and you're only about 10mins from the circuit. It's a great area for driving, but can be wet - as can the 'Ring...even in summer due to the whole area being hilly.

You could always ask on the Belgium forum in the international section, there might be some regular Spa visitors there

Dont drive on Belgian roads and if you have to go in a Off road Disco.
The only country with roads worse than blighty!
Belgian roads can be pretty bad. Having said that the M-way to Liege/Spa is OK (not billiard table, but OK with a Tiv), and there are some lovely roads in the Ardennes...At least they were in August last year. The only country with roads worse than blighty!
It was noticeable though, how the quality changed for the better as soon as you crossed the border into Germany. To be fair, the Northern French motorways could be pretty 'lumpy' in parts. Guess it's down to frost and ice attack in the winter.
