Anyone had this?

I know they are rated as a very good wet tyre, but sort of OK dry, but really no progression at all...

They were always a good tyre on my old Focus ST, good balance of wet and dry grip.

I have found them to be excellent and really progressive on the limits of grip on MX5s and subarus.
I would look beyond the tyres to the suspension set up - perhaps something is broken.
They are a brilliant road tyre - but not a good track tyre, they dont last long.

+1 on the longevity

5k out of the fronts, apart from that good balance of wet/dry

I'm using them on a tuned Impreza STi - fair bit of roll resistance from arb's pillow ball rear links, and polybushed front control arms.

Not impressed with grip OR life of these on the rear of my Jaguar S-Type. The old F1 GSD3 were far better IMHO.

They;ve been replaced by the Assymetric 2 now which claims to have addressed the wear problem.

So Goodyear acknowledge issues with the tyre...

Sure, if you tggma BMW 'acknowledge issues' with the 320d by making the new one more economical. It's just natural product improvements!

Goodyear are a pain in the arse. Been buying their Eagle F1s since GSD1, up to Asymmetric1. They keep changing them every year, making it hard to hunt the old ones down, and before the new ones come out. Wasn't so bad in GSD1 days to be fair, but GSD2 on. I put up with it 'cos of the tyre quality, but last time around (about 6 months ago) I had had enough. Never again.

There were some issues with Chinese made vesions (normally made in Germany and only asymmetic 1) I too had problems with the first version but the asymmetric 2 is one of the best tyres I have used.

Thats a gross exageration. They don't change them every year at all - more like every 3-5 years. F1 GS-D3 first appeared in about 2003, was replaced by Assymetric in 2007 and this has now been replaced by the Assymetric 2 as of 2010/11.

Which is pretty much the same as everyone else - Pilot Sport 1 to 2 to 3 to SuperSport, and we are now at Continental SportContact *5*! 3 had only been out a few years..

Perhaps 'every year' is. That doesn't change the fact that they are still a pain to get hold of. It happens to me every time I needed some new ones, no matter who I called. "Yeh, we've got one in our depot in Scotland." "Any clue from GY when the new ones are coming into stock?". "No."

It just really sts me. I can usually locate a couple, but I'm sick of it now.

Actually, I think they're re-iterated more quickly as time has moved on.
