325i 'Motorsport Edition' Convertible (E30)

Here are some pictures of my 1988 'Motorsport Edition' BMW Convertible. One of only 40 built.
Special Macau Blue paintwork, Full Leather interior (seats, consoles, door cards and trims, even the ashtray lids are a leather trimmed) LSD etc.
I understand (although happy to be corrected) that some of these cars came with brightwork, but my car is factory de-chromed, and of the 40, only 23 were built with manual transmission (my car being one of those 23) Offered as an alternative by BMW GB as an alternative to the 'then new' E30 M3 Convertible that was left hand drive only.
My car is also fitted with a BMW 'M-Tech 1' bodykit and an 'M-tech 2' steering wheel, along with a Scorpion Exhaust and some (soon to be changed) dubious aftermarket wheels.
There were later series of E30 Motorsport Editions built, but all in greater numbers than the origional 1988 cars.
Still have lots to do on my car, but for the time being...........

Yup, whilst the wheels actually look much better in the metal, they are far from ideal, Just that i can't decide what to replace them with (Although some 16" Alpina's are likely to be my first choice).
That Calypsso Red car is nice, think they made those (late series ones) in Mauritius Blue also, both having lotus leather and the later rear lights and 'Tech-2' Bodykits..... Only ever seen Auto'd though.
Inbetween are the 'Bubble leather' cars which were made in greater numbers (Although still only about 600 consisting of Macau Blue/Tech2/Small lights/grey Bubble and Sebring Grey/small or large lights and black bubble) and i think there may have been some German cars in Alpine white with Lotus Bubble leather?
That Calypsso Red car is nice, think they made those (late series ones) in Mauritius Blue also, both having lotus leather and the later rear lights and 'Tech-2' Bodykits..... Only ever seen Auto'd though.

It's a tec I body kit, which I'm sure a first generation Motorsport didn't have fitted , another vote for loosing the wheels, needs 15" BBS cross spoes!Yeah, that 89 Edition is nice, Those later metal bumper ones, i beleive have Hydo roofs and OBC. There are lots of things added by my cars previous owner (who owned the car for the last 7 or 8 years) that i dont't like, but i will be keeping the kit on and i'm not likely to drop to 15" wheels (although i may gather a set to have with the car)

A friend's dad had one of these brand new on a F-plate in Dolphin Grey. Looked lovely. IIRC it was a 325i Sport M-Technic Convertible...? Looked identical the the one in this photo. Still looks good to this day...This is the Motosport i recall -which ,i belive, is third and final of series

Take the chassis number of the car you are thinking about buying to any BMW Dealer. Ask them to run it through their computer for the original specification details. This should show dealer code 798 THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART, without it you can�t buy any of the M Technic parts and your car will be de-valued as 325 Motor Sport Edition Cars are becoming collectable! There are only 590 325 Motor Sport Edition Convertibles is the UK, this breaks down as: 40 in 1988 250 in 1989 250 in 1990 50 in 1991 My research leads me to believe that of the last 50 there are 25 finished in Calypso Red, 10 with lotus white leather trim the rest with the very special �bubble leather� Napa-Tex woven central seat parts in either black or silver/grey ONLY (from the M5 of that time). A further 10 cars from the last batch were built by Alpina. All those cars have the later style rear lights, are in Calypso red (Maroon). Please don�t believe 1 of 250 or 1 of 50 etc. it�s only half true at best? The run extended to 590 in total in the UK � I have seen them in LHD, even rarer as the M3 convertible was only LHD. The 325 Motor Sport Edition was touted as an alternative in the UK! Most of these cars are finished in Sebring Grey Metallic (Black hoods) & Macua Blue Metallic (Blue hoods) both special to the Motorsport range, there�s also black NOT SURE OF ANY OTHER COLOURS. Nearly all of them have power hoods as standard. The leather includes the centre tunnel; all door panels (not just a �splash� of leather), inside of door pockets and tops of ash trays! Any without the bubble leather inserts have either black or sliver/grey leather & have motor sport colours sewn in one corner of the seat back rest. The calypso/mauritius/lotus cars were the last one to be produced, 1991 production 50 in each colour iirc, they were available and manuals, afriend has a calypso manual currently and someone else I know had a calypso manual back in 2000, remember seeing that cars up forsale again a couple of years ago.If your interested, calypso friends car came with 17" 'pina reps as well as the standard 7x15 nogaro centre wheels, he's putting the 15's back on the car so will be selling the 17's, pm me if your interested in the 17's.
