As we get closer to the digital TV switchover this summer, are we likely to see some companies putting on some top notch deals to try and grab the inevitable plethora of customers that will need to change TVs/buy a freeview box, or worse, are we likely to see some companies put prices up to try and take advantage of the situation?

Thought I'd seek out some opinions from people a little bit more involved in the industry than I am.

laugh

he he he - just a touch too london centric I think...it does have a lot of people in it, but ironically a lot of them will already have these fancy things called "digital ready" TV's....

you probably haven't heard of them yet, but don't worry - you will!

I'm not in London.

I have an LCD TV/computer monitor that really needs replacing and I'm just wondering whether I should get a replacement now or whether to wait a few months in case there are some deals on.

I would imagine digital TV's will go up now, as you've got no choice but to buy one. smile

If a lot of people have to replace their TV why would there be any deals? You only get good deals when the market is dead and retailers have to do things to shift the stock.

I thought there might be some deals as most people will probably just get a 30 set top box, where as some of the larger retailers might stick some deals on TVs to try and entice people to upgrade their TV instead.

As you're one of the last areas to switchover, perhaps you should wait a bit until everyone who needs a new TV has bought one. Then the market will be on its arse and prices might drop.

Or they might go up, as the manufacturing volumes will be lower. Dilemma!
