holiday entitlement help
Discussion
Hi guys,
My department at work is having some trouble with HR (surprise!) at the moment regarding our annual leave entitlement.
Basically we work a 4 on/ 4 off shift pattern of 12 hour shifts,a combination of days and nights.
The staff handbook states that full time workers get 32 days per year, however HR are classing us as part-time workers to give us 4 days less, we are full time and contracted to do 42 hours per week so I am confused to how they can do this??
Can anyone shed any light? as it seems they are just changing how they class us to suit themselves!
Many thanks in advance.J

Is it possible it comes down to how many days holiday you need to use to get a full week off of work?
For example I work 5 days out of 7 in a week but another department works 6 days out of 7. Members of the 6 days out of 7 get more days annual leave but this is because they need to use 6 to get a weeks holiday whereas I only need to use 5.
Our work likes to see holidays in terms of x number of weeks a year - so 5 weeks is 25 days to me but the others are 30 days.
