For 3 nights, just me and a new special someone. Looking for 4/5 star at a sensible price. Don't need Shangri-la levels of luxury but somewhere with minimal brattage and chavs would be nice. Oh, and on the beach.

Thanks.

Apart from Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa you don't have much choice if you want a hotel on the beach in Singapore.Singapore has many good hotels try Pan Pacific,Marina Mandarin ot further towards Orchard Road shopping area, Traders Hotel.

Thanks. Further research is leading me to the Shangri-la. It isn't too expensive either. We don't want a 'city centre' type hotel - she lives in Dubai, so we get plenty of malls and stuff.

I have stayed at the Shangri-la Singapore before. Was not that impressed with it. A little tired. Hallways to rooms were all exposed concrete. Room looked dated and that was supposedly an "executive" room. I know they were renovating last year so hopefully it has improved.

There are newer options on Sentosa worth checking out:
- The Capella
- Amara Sanctuary
- Costa Sands Resort
- Crockfords
- Movenpick

I have not stayed at Capella but I have heard from local friends that it is still having service issues. Certainly it looked gorgeous from when I explored the place while I was there for a dinner.

I have stayed at Amara and think it is much nicer than Shangri-la. I liked how it felt more intimate and private with kids separated from adults. It is not however a beach resort.

I m not sure I would want to swim in the South China Sea given all the ships dumping untreated sewage into the water just off the coast? Sit on beach looking out at all the cargo ships?

Why on earth would you fly from Dubai to go to Sentosa? (I'm another Singapore resident). You'd be better off going over to Bintan if you ae headed out this way.

It is a stopover en-route to Manilla. Never visited, always fancied a look around.

Stayed at what used to be the Beaufort (now The Sentosa) a few times - very nice/chilled out and a great pool.
