Hello wise old owls. After reading a thread on here where a guy has a M6 plate that he feels is worth 1800 got me thinking about how each of us value plates differently.

My plate is M5 CEU which I am taking off the car. I see it as saying M5 SEE YOU. Is this what you lot CE? sorry i mean see.

Is this plate still only worth 300 pounds, or is it classed as a novelty plate?

To me that plate's worth a few hundred quid as an age hider, there are plenty around the 4-500 range. I find all this BYE, HOT, SEE YOU stuff cringe worthy.

Hence the reason it is coming off. I have however had a number of positive comments about the plate, which is why I have posted to gauge reaction to it.

To "Cecil Edward Unicorn" who owns an M5 - its probably worth his life savings - to anyone else nothing whatsoever!

My word, It`s Cecil Unicorn here, my erstwhile brother Cornelius Unicorn and I will pool our not inconsiderable family fortunes of 1.79 and offer you 1.47.

Still worth the 300 you paid im affraid.

I paid 250 for M5 EDX 2 years ago. My name is Eddie and i own an M5, which is handy. But to others its probably still only a 250 - 400 plate.

I didn't buy it. It was on the car when I bought it. I don't like it and will be putting my 2 digit 2 letter plate on.

Private plates are a subjective matter, what is worth cold hard doubloons to one punter, isn't worth the paper it's written on to another.

I would imagine ebay is your best best, after changing your name of course.

If I ever decide to get rid of my plate, that's what I will do. Not that it's worth much either.

M3 WTF will continue to adorn my M5 for at least a little while longer.

My son has A721 OUD on his car. It could easily say A 72 Loud but a valuation online stated it was worthless !

Oh well....

I also have M3 FVO on retention that is worth the north end of fk all (at least thats what I was told smile)

Yeah, id have to agree that A72 LOUD would be worth nothing to anyone. Thats a really random plate and you'd struggle to find anyone who'd recognise what it was saying if spaced correctly.

M3 FVO at least has a little bit of appeal to BMW owners (or southern road repairers)

As mentioned above eBay is the answer. Find a similar plate for sale as an auction(rather than buy it now hopers) which sold. Tick the completed listings option and do this over a period of months. It makes you realise how ridiculous some evaluations are and how even more ridiculous some are advertising as buy it now!
