hi guys
my car is in for a service at Hilton and Moss, i need new rear discs and pads, so i thought i would replace all four discs and pads. Hilton and Moss use Racing Green to source genuine tvr parts. however a set of four discs comes in at around 270. and on ebay it seems like i can get the same for about 100.
i am not going to compromise in the brakes dept, but also i dont want to dismiss perfecly good alternative parts which i may be able to get a lot cheaper.
has anyone had any experience of discs and pads from ebay, and if so which ones? they need to be quality goods which will last and be efficient and be equal to whats asked of them.

also a little tip. i have an xjr and i found that the jack winds down small enough to fit under the Chim and still allow for a wooden packing piece between jack and car! and it has a ratchet handle, all for about 20 on ebay

A long time ago now (2005 to be precise) but I replaced the discs on my old Chim with black diamond 12 grooves and they were 100 front and 120 rear per pair. For standard discs which I believe are just Ford items 270 is an awful lot of money. The Black diamond part numbers are on my profile blog and I'm sure these could be cross referenced with Ford parts.

Tony, i am a bit worried if i dont get the recommended parts that they might not fit quite right, or be a little bit out of true or alignment, then it would be a lot of hassle, if i go for the tvr parts, which is! a lot of money, at least i have some recourse

I personally wouldn't worry, they are actually Ford parts, though I can't remember from which ones - Granada or Escort Cosworth spring to mind.

ETA (price per pair) - http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/uprated/ebc-standar...

These are from TVR Power - http://www.tvrpower.co.uk/store/slug/front-1-brake...

As good as H&M are at 270 I think you're being seriously ripped off.

No offence but if you want to throw money away then allow H&M to purchase them through Racing Green. Otherwise ask them to buy elsewhere (they deal with TVR Power for instance) or supply yourself.
Or from here - http://www.clever-trevor.net/TVR/Parts/Chimaera/e%... again, most TVR indies will have accounts with C/Trev, Power etc.

none taken :-)
i have spoken to racing green who wont price match, i would rather ask Hilton to order them rather than source them myself, so if anything goes wrong or if they are faulty then i dont have to chase any one up and complain. i will now look at tvr power

That's the sort of money I paid for discs.

My local independent brake & clutch guy has an Aladin's Cave of parts and can match any disc by just looking at it.

I bought the excellent quality Pagid pads from Euro Car Parts, not the expensive race ones just Pagid's regular range.

A complete fluid change using ATE Super Blue and a full set of Goodridge braided brake hoses.

The whole lot (front & rear) cost me a shade over 200.00.

No dust, great brakes and cheap as chips for a full brake refresh.

Job done.
