Interesting Ruf bin 997's turbos VTG turbos, 4wd system and gen 2 997 turbos engine in favour of 996 turbos 4wd system and engine.
Awesome car. I expect it would piss all over a GT2 RS
In a few years 996 turbo may become the turbo to have in my view.

He uses 997 BCU computer for platform functions and 996 ECU to control the 996 turbo engine.
Tuning the VTG properly is difficult and ultimately limited to 700PS by the size of the VTG hotside which is fixed until BW/Porsche decide to invest in making a bigger one (which they probably won't).
Only real downside for the Ruf approach is the lack of the response which the VTG set up can give although with decent tuning and being 3.8 litre and based on a 9.4:1 CR engine (997tt engine is 9:1) the response is probably pretty good....
The latest Mezger technology is based around the RS Tuning engine which was developed for the record breaking Alzen/H&R 997 which did 400kph with a 1050hp engine. This engine in its "road" form is 3.9 litre with special short pistons, longer Carrillos, higher compression ratio, special BW/KKK conventional turbos and apparently 950NM by 3400rpm and 870hp maximum at 1.2 bar. Like Ruf they are having to use a different ECU, in this case the Bosch MS 4.4 unit and the trick is to get it to talk with the 997 electronics so the dash etc works.... it's not done yet but this engine is running in a 996GT2 and is apparently pretty special, I'd still like to feel the boost response as I can't believe its as good as VTG

Guess it will be the turbo hydraulic set up with the Sachs 890NM and organic disc, same one I have on my 993tt 800NM and hydraulic assistance, and 997GT2 920NM non hydraulic and slips quite a bit when the ambient is sub 10C and torque is prob nearer 1KNM - this is a superb clutch but the LWFW does make it a little more "jumpy", I have the stock flywheel in the GT2 and whilst the engine is not as snappy to rev when in neutral, it is easier to use the clutch when pulling away...
