Anyone went doen this route ?

Spoke to Bilstien today price to refurb shockers is 80 each not including springs or bushes - that adds another 400 odd + the vat

Seems quite an expensive way to go

A lot of the Legacy guys use this service. Cheaper than new Bilsteins. Be aware that although they change the inner bushings for this price, it doesn't include any bearings if indeed there are any in non-inverted shocks.

Just looking at options at moment . Not planning on track days and would like to keep the suspension as standard as possible. Noticed that spax do a set but not heard them mentioned on here- take it they are not recommended ? Remember years ago spax were the make to go for as well.

80 each seems a lot of money for a refurb. I've got Protech on mine and I sent the pair off to them and they did them for nothing, they were out of warranty by a couple of years too.
New shocks are not much more than your quote and they'll be a far better shocker too.

Just out of interest, I drove my friends boggo 5.0 chim a couple of days ago which is fitted with billies. I was surprised how unsettled it was at spirited driving on country roads compared to my car.
It tended to jiggle about and was too soft!

When I moved up to Pro-Techs there was a big improvement for road driving and I do recommend them.

If you are going with them or similar, new springs that are +20% stiffer are imperative as the standard weight springs are too soft.

If you are considering several T/D's a year, I would recommend a more capable damper like Nitrons or Gaz Monos (which is what I run).

^^. Interesting. I fear Chimaera ownership is going to be a slippery slope of modifications that I initially thought I didn't need. laugh

Not planning any trackdays. What I don't want is a solid, teeth rattling drive. The protech ones look good though out of interest was the 500 on its original bilstiens or newer ones ? Any ways just gathering info at moment as really need to sort steering rack out first

To save having your car off the road there are one front and one rear pair of chimaera bilsteins on eBay right now for 20 quid which you could buy and refurb, then swap over.
