Hi, Newby on the block here. Just bought a ready built GTR but am lookin for more comfortable seats. The ones fitted in my machineare not Ultima. Anyone found a suitable alternative or are Ultima's really worth the money? Your comments (constructive!) appreciated.

Welcome Roy
When I built my GTR I was very conscious of the risk I was taking. Having had a disc removed a few years ago getting in and out and the final seating position may have had a serious consequence to my back.
I have the factory seats and they are pretty good. Given the chance again I would have the pump up lumbar support. If I could have driven to LeMans before getting the seats I would have asked for a little more padding in the seat base.

There are very few seats that will fit so you will need to choose carefully.

If you come to the factory open day you will get the best chance to try some out.

Hi Roy,

Good to hear of another Ultima north of the border - I think that's up to 3 of us on Pistonheads now! (gdr is near Aberdeen and I'm in Edinburgh)

I've not been in an Ultima with non-Factory seats but I can vouch for the quality of the standard Factory items. I have quite a long back which makes sitting in a lot of cars quite awkward particularly when it comes to headroom. The std. seats have loads of lateral grip and with the adjustable lumbar support (air bladder behind the fabric) are quite comfortable. They also are at just the right angle to give a good driving position and yet allow me to fit in the car with a helmet on.

Dave/Steve,

Thanks for the advice guys. Presently fitted are modified RS200 seats which sit a little too high for a six footer like me plus they are a little narrow for my spreading mid-riff (90Kgs). However they would suit someone of smaller/slimmer stature as they are very supportive. The factory seats it is then... I intend changing the interior in any case.

If you get the factory seats make sure they give you the dimensions to drill the floor. You will not see it when you look into an Ultima cockpit but the seats actually point in towards each other.

Can any of you fellas tell me how much room you have between the factory seats? Reason I ask is that my handbrake/gearshift is centre mounted in a small console....not a great problem as the gearchange can be changed to conventional siting on the right.

The seats are 480 across the front. The cockpit is 1085 across.
You just need to share out the difference where you need it.
