996TT finally taken the plunge & a question
Discussion
Hi - A quick introduction
I've been lurking a while and absorbing all the expertise on the site before fianlly paying my deposit on my first Porsche, a Silver 996 Turbo X50 with AeroKit, Short Shift & Sports exhaust last week.
I've had a chequered car history, with a variety of sporty and not so sporty cars, ranging from Minis, Spitfires, MKII Escorts and Renault 5 GT turbos to TVRs and my latest, a remapped 260 BHP diesel Alfa 159. So the 996TT is a huge step up for me!
Assuming the PPI is OK, I'll be driving it away on Wednesday. Can't contain the excitement and will probably explode before Wednesday !
A quick question - when I'm not parking at home in my garage, I'd like a waterproof, breathable cover for the car. I've had a Google around, but can't seem to find anything reasonably cheap specifically for the 996 turbo with factory aerokit. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks.
Here it is!

don't know that I like the aftermarket exhaust tips.
Yep - you've spotted the one reservation I have about the car! I'm not convinced about the sports exhaust. It was a very expensive purchase for the previous owner (3,500 pounds), but is definitely 'boomy' at certain revs. If I'm lucky, it could be a switchable one at that price - I didn't fully check the receipt or look for the appropriate console switch. I'll just have to see if I get on with ot or not - and it does supposedly add 35-40 BHP.Zyp said:
Lovely car, well done.
I once had a car cover for my old Focus RS, and to be honest, it was the biggest waste of money!
Unless the car is spotlessly clean each time you put the cover on, you'll scratch it to buggery!
That lovely paintwork will be a mass of swirls before you know it.
Thanks Zyp. I did wonder about that. Even the ones that say they are 'non-scratch' must eventually get gritty on the surface in contact with the car and strong winds will move it around. I'll have a ponder!I once had a car cover for my old Focus RS, and to be honest, it was the biggest waste of money!

Has the car been remapped? What boost pressure does it show at full throttle?. Zyp said:

I agree, i still buy them though but getting the chance to use when the car is clean is slim. They just end up taking up space in the bonnet.I once had a car cover for my old Focus RS, and to be honest, it was the biggest waste of money!

Looks like the ruffled leather option.
And air vents and possible PCM surroundAnd thanks to all of you who've commented on the pros and cons of car covers. On balance, I reckon I'm going to manage without - I'm too worried about scratching it now.
