What a spec! I could be tempted back into a GTS at that money - with the Aerokit, non-plastic dash/seats, and PDK. Apart from PCCB's it must have nearly every option. Sad though to think what the trade-bid must be on it if it's private at 65k. Too cheap imho, especially when a new Boxster S is going to be north of 50k with a few essentials..

Ooosh. What's that, 30k in a year? Not the copper-bottomed investment some people have been suggesting then.Magic919 said:
Selling privately doesn't work as well as it used to.
Because it is nigh on impossible to finance these days...and the market for people with the ability or inclination to drop 65k in cash on a rapidly depreciating asset is pretty limited.I remember buying a 997 5 years ago privately. PCP through Lombard - everything sorted in a couple of hours through a broker. No difficult questions asked. Changed days now...unfortunately

Private cash will want either the latest and greatest to hold for a couple months, or be willing to wait until year 2-3 when most of the depreciation has happened. Q1 2012 has not been the annual jumpstart many have hoped for, although the equity markets have been reasonably decent with very low liquidity... so not confidence inspiring either. Best for many to hold cash and finance if planning to buy anything... and that is not going to happen so easily on a private purchase.

Lombard will still finance private sale cars without a problem, if the seller has a copy of the original invoice, as would several other asset finance outfits when I last checked. So I don't think that's the reason.
You sure? I've always done my deals through Classic and Sports Finance and Rob knows his stuff. Last time I spoke to him he reckoned there was no way to do deals like that privately. Might have changed in the meantime I guess..Junior Bianno said:

Well when I was looking at selling my 997 privately before Christmas I checked with my Lombard account manager and she was happy to arrange finance for a private sale. On the condition that I had the original invoice, which I did. That's a lovely car and a lot of 997 for the money.
I think history will, in time, judge the 997 better than the 996, esp the Gen II cars and the GTS should find a following. In the meantime, where are the buyers for this type of car? Suspect it will be existing 997 owners looking to trade up but at 65k still plenty of other things to consider - Turbo, GT3. The Chelsea set will just go for the 991...

They buy from an OPC, unless they can reallllly steal it. That said, the car above is very well priced, but only if you want Aerokit, which is still, a desired taste that many don't like. I personally think the Aerokit looks good.Where these cars will really shine is at 40k private buy at 3 years old. After that i think they will be very slow to depreciate, and make for cheap, and desirable 911 ownership. Obviously all IMO.

The GTS is my obvious upgrade path and at 40k would be fantastic value to say the least.
