N vs Non-N tryes on out of warranty 997/996
Discussion
I wanted to ask how many owners run N vs non N rated tyres on there out of warranty cars.
I have read a few posts and views are mixed and varied.
Price differences are more than the 10 difference some have mentioned more like 50.
A few have also suggested some mid range tyres eg. Falkens.
Thought I check the status quo.
Cheers.

Personally (as a newbie to porsche ownership) I wouldn't put mid priced tyres on one. You would be much better putting good quality rubber on but I wouldn't worry about the N rating. As I understand it this is purely a speed rating and you are unlikely to top 100mph anyway in Britain.
I would just research what the best possible tyres were - if they happened to be N rated then fine. If they weren't I wouldn't worry.

Sorry that is not right, N rating has nothing to do with speed. The speed rating typically Y or Z on a porsche is the speed. The N means that Porsche has tested and approved that generation of that tyre in that size, each new tested generation raises the N number, a new tyre goes back to N0.Simples.

So an N4 tyre is 'older' than an N3 tyre?Simples.

Thanks for the replies, it seems plenty do run Non-N tyres so I guess I'll buy decent quality rubber if N rated great if not no biggy.
I originally asked as the price difference between similar N rated and non N rated tyres seemed to be 30-50 when I looked, I'll just do some more digging.
Many thanks

I had non n rated goodyears and now have n rated bridgstones. It's not fair to compare across different brands and old/new tyres, but I'd happily refit either in future. I did find N rated tyres were about the same price as non N versions. If your going to buy tyres which you can get in n rating then you might as well get n, if not then its the usual of buy something decent at least.
I have 'mid range' vredestien's on my 997s and they are a great tyre better than the pirelli Rosso n rated garbage I had on first. The grip in both wet and dry is imbelievable and the grip is very progressive and assured.
They also cost over £120 less per rear and £150 less per front than the n rated pirelli/michellin options.
If you dont have warranty don't be a fool and play the n game, think about it you know it makes sense
