And 19.5k change.

So how about some criteria to help out so we don't just radomly choose one of the many hundreds of thousands of cars for sale right now for less than 20k.

Although the answer will either be a VAG TDi, and Subaru Legacy, 2xMX5 or a BMW 320d/Alpina D3.

honestly for the life of me cannot understand why anyone would by a used Proton, or a new one for that matter

they are unreliable, built by slaves, 80's design, devalue like a tonne of lead

they aren't even cheaper to justify buying one

my theory is that you will need to claim ignorance over insanity to buy one

Is it a bit early for you tbc?

It was there to illustrate the rather expansive options open to us in helping narrow down a car choice. If i had chosen a good but cheap car it would not have had the same impact. Next time i will remember to put a wink in to denote the sarcasm.

ETA, having had the (dis)pleasure of driving one of the older ones for a fair few miles i do completely agree with everything you say.

You can get a very nice M5 for 20k now (the v10 one). That would tick his boxes.

Alternatively, I'll buy that Proton and sell it to your mate for 20k if he likes... hehe

Well he has a 330d at the moment and is bored with it so asked me what I thought as he isn't a PHeader. It will be used as a daily driver and has to have 4 seats... Fuel doesn't matter and doesn't want it to be too old... Oh the one thing he did say is it had to sound nice

Why 20k?

Four motorbikes at 5k per bike.

With very strong haggling on a lucky day. Can't be that much demand for it anyway.

Seems arbitrary to me, and a bit "tail wagging the dog".

Wouldn't it be more sensible for him to research cars he liked and then figure out how much he has to spend? 20k is an awful lot of money, really. For instance, half that would buy a terrific BMW - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

He needs to figure out what he wants from the car in more detail.
