I promised my daughter for her 19th birthday she could have a drive in the AMV8! I must have been mad but there you go.
I wondered if anybody had done something similar and how did you do it? Private land? I won't be able to insure her, but don't want to break the law. Live in Leeds so if there is somewhere locally I could take her it would be appreciated!
One worried father!!!

I agree. There are plenty of very quiet country roads where you could go for a spin and not see another car.

Yup...took my friend's daughter into our yard at work and gave her a go in the DB9.

I'd avoid country lanes or anywhere public. The Police don't go all warm and gooey if they spot you...they tend to throw the book at you.

I'm assuming she does have a valid licence smile

Plus one on the country road bit. Whilst there may be a low frisk of any other car being around, there is a very high impact on you if there is an unfortunate incident with the only other car on the road at that time. And of course sods law ........

Put a phone call into these guys and see if you come to an arrangement?

BTW I have no relationship with the above as it was a result of a google search.

I'll have to check but I'm sure my insurance ( Chubb masterpiece) covers any driver from 18 years old?

Isn't it a bit tedious that we've been 'conditioned' into not being able to point towards a company without the 'there is no relationship between them and me' postscript?

True. And rather sad.

That's a discussion on the direction of society in general which is no better encapsulated in the strap line " Where there is blame, there is a claim".

I let my son of 21 have a 'blip' around a local parking lot on a Sunday (it was deserted). Not as good as actually going out for a drive, but it was better than nothing, and he felt really privileged to be able to drive the V12V. Didn't get out of 2nd though...

Track day or get her insured (it's not impossible unless she has no license and/or a crap record! Just expensive - which'll learn you for making promises smile).

I believe you can end up in hot water even on "private" land unless you own it or have the owners' express permission. And in the latter instance I would guess they would be unlikely to oblige due to liability issues.

A track day would be by far the best way as you can both have a proper go in the car. you can also get her some tuition so a double bonus.

Can you not just get a days insurance?

Also, if you're thinking of actually going on the public roads, aside from being a tt for driving uninsured, check this out - kids who've crashed their parents exotic cars: http://www.wreckedexotics.com/newphotos/bestof2010...

I did so on purpose smile

No news - d-day is 6th April. Other half has now finished work. First NCT class last Thursday. Off the juice now. House ready. Hatches battened. Cat looking nervous.

It's like being cranked up to the top of a roller coaster and I'm just approaching the top...

Over that summit are sights, sounds and smells that no human being should ever encounter.

I say this from currently having grandson little Phillie staying with us en ce moment.

I'm sure Abraham will be giving you endless fun.

BTW if you need advice on setting up a pension for him the day he is born, just shout out. I've just put Phillie into Brazil (16%) and India (11%) through Aberdeen Emerging Markets wink

Book a day for both of you at Bedford Aerodrome, loads of run off so unlikely to stuff the car if you spin off with decent straights.

Just avoid being first out, let the few people settle down before venturing out

Depending who you are with, you might find your insurance company obliges? I just added a driver of 23 who had <1yr of license on my policy for a week so it may be possible.

Hi,

I'm not sure where you are based, but I'd highly recommend Carlimits. Andrew does Airfield based training days in Essex and is very well known and regarded within the Lotus community.

In the past I've let a lot of people drive my cars there.

Here's a video to get a feel for the day...

Edit: The second car in the video is the owners son driving. The third is someone else driving mine.
