It sounds like top end problems, anyway ain't good that's for sure. Love to know what exactly happened with only 5k on it.

turned it over long enough to record it and switched it off, about 20 seconds

audi tech turned it over for 5 seconds and just said it has to be recovered and must not be started ...

im glad i hadnt chipped it yet ...

Wow, that does sound like a diesel. Good luck with it, sounds like it's going to be in need of a major rebuild, but if it's only got 5000 miles on it I'd be asking for a new engine and a hell of a warranty from Audi. Think of the potential damage to the cars value too - a new engine would be a good thing but I think many casual buyers would be put off by an ad saying "car had a new engine at 5000 miles".

Is it too late to get your money back?

IME dealers aren't interested in rebuilding engines: too much time/effort, AND neither they nor the manufacturer have the facilities to do so. And there's no way in hell a manufacturer would have a third party rebuild the engine: too much trouble should a warranty claim (be it with the car or the work) arise.

It's goosed, anyway.

Thats fine if its in a Dumper Truck, otherwise that is the sound of Big Ends or something with clearances in the several millimetre range,

get feed up being told 1) all audi drivers are cocks 2) i bought the wrong car ie not a 1M
