Fixing a DAB receiver

I want to mount a DAB receiver on the centre dash, between the immobiliser socket and the silver key.

I've tried self-adhesive velcro pads etc but they just fall off beacause they don't stick very well to the carpet.

Can anyone advise what is underneath the carpet there - it I wanted to put a couple of short self tappers in there is there any danger of me damaging something with a drill?

The carper is stuck to a fibreglass shell and behind that is a reasonable sized gap. The radio wiring and cables for a chassis earth and some of the dash & heater functions run behind there but so long as you keep the self tappers short you shouldn't have any problem.
