Thinking of a Cerb but need some help...

Hi Guys,

First post to the forum

As the title suggests, I'm thinking of buying a Cerb.

I've spent countless hours reading on what to look for (and look out for) with regard to buying a Cerb.

For the most part, all posts suggest going to a few meets, driving a few cars etc - unfortunately, that is my problem.

I live in Australia, and being confident I can bring one in without too much fuss, I'm not confident I'll be getting what I pay for. As I understand it, buying a Cerb can be either a dream or nightmare, depending on the car you buy.

I've seen a post that recommends the hiring of a gentleman to find me one, inspect it etc.

Would you guys think this would be the best option for someone in my position? Any more names for similar services? Suggestions?

Would love a bit of help.

EDIT:

I forgot to note that buying one locally is not really an option - there are 4 or 5 Cerbs in Aus (that I know of).

Currently 2 are for sale:

- '97 4.2 for $55k AUD
- '97 4.2 for $120k AUD, worringly the description notes: 'has had about $130k spent in overhauls and upgrades in recent years'

I assume (what do they say about assumption and cats? ) the inflated prices are as a result of people not being bothered to take the time, risk and money to import. Not mentioning their rarity in Australia.

What's your budget? What are you looking for?

Looking for either 4.2 or 4.5 - not too fussed about engine size.

As long as the car is in good knick I dont mind - no specific colour preferences, although I love the yellow!

As for price I'm thinking around 15k GBP.

Rob Ingleby has been used by many and has regular ads in the the TVRCC mag SPRINT.
He may be a help.

I'm sure that you've already read that these cars are not built with 'Rocket Science' so if you have half a brain (and that's pretty much essential for Cerb' ownership) you will be able to greatly reduce running costs by getting out 'n' under, yourself.
