Well if they did introduce a front driver in two years time and the average PHer's MX5 is 15 years old that makes 17 years before we have to worry by which time petrol will be illegal anyway wink

You would have to be a total muppet to consider it. It's like changing the recipe of coke.

"Waring explained that the next generation model would be a global sportscar"

Sportscar / FWD two entirely different attributes.

I can't think of a good FWD sportscar. Lots of Coups however...

I don't think Mazda should be thinking about what is "right" for the segment. The market for front wheel drive drop tops has been tried and those who attempted it found out what the "Segment" thought was right.

more platform sharing.

They'll try and convince people it's as good as RWD through marketing.

/I can't believe it's not butter/Focus RS sort of thing

Sounds like they are thinking about sticking a convertible body on a Fiesta/Mazda2.

They'd be better off platform sharing the other way so that Mazda keeps the MX5 as is and Ford gets a a small RWD hatchback / coupe...

And that bloke seems to have confirmed his muppet status, using such ste as 'going forward' needlessly at the end of a sentence. Also, "we need to go through the thought process about..." rather than just saying "we need to think about". Why use five words when eleventy-seven will do?

The 1990's Lotus Elan. FWD and fabulous. Not sure there are any others though!

Hold up a minute, Crack Fox.

I read that as him saying that other elements within Mazda wanted FWD but he was defending RWD. If so, he's the hero of the piece, n'est-ce pas?

Mazda in "drumming up a bit of PR to announce that they are doing a new model MX-5" shocker.

It will be RWD, it will be small and it will be successful. Sold millions of the damn things and it makes a good profit for them. Cant see them changing the formula too much. Though making a touch bigger might be nice for me.

Got very mixed reviews though. Split the Lotus camp.
