I've just bought myself some bucket seats for my scimitar ss1 and I'm going to be fitting harnesses in, I'm just wondering that if I am fitting EEC road legal harnesses do I still need the original seat belts for MOT? Or are the harnesses enough?

Thanks

You should completely remove the seatbelts.

Almost all of the cars I've rallied in have no original seatbelts and still pass the MOT's. wink

you havent got to if you own a lotus.....cant see it being different for other

i THINK the only stipulation regarding harnesses as your only belt is that it has to be quick release

Absolute PITA to use without the standard belts though.

Type approval of cars requires seatbelts which can be latched using one hand. I don't think this applies for MoT where they only need to be securely fitted and not frayed.

Ahh, it shouldn't be too bad, the harness i'm looking just has the one push button latch in the centre and it's only a weekend/track/fun car smile

Thanks for the help

Out of interest, if the harnesses are out of date, are they still legal for road use??

No, my mini failed on this a few years ago. Had to re-fit original belts before the re-test.

Then again, may have just been a picky MOT tester.

I suppose seatbelts are one of those things on the MOT where if its not there, it can't fail? But if it is there, it must work to pass?

If there's no seat, the belt isn't tested...
