So, in this lovely clear frosty morning, I came to work in my 08' XK.

Although the window dipped as usual when I got in, neither would open from the switches all the way to work (an hours journey)- must be the cold I thought.

However, I've just been back to the car now and the windows still wont open via the switches. They dip and return ok when the doors open and even give a little movement when the switch is pressed.

So, before I go into the dealer and get them to look, have I done something 'clever' and set some security thing in place without knowing it? For instance, is there a button press sequence on the fob that will disable the windows?

I don't have the manual with me so cannot read up about this - therefore...... your assistance would be gratefully appreciated!!

there is usually a way to reset the calibration of the electric windows (i.e. how far is fully open and how far is fully closed) I'd try that first. Maybe try holding the 'up' button while the windows is up and see what happens.

I'm assuming it's not the switches or fuses from what you have said.

Eta: found this

Ignition on. Drop window fully down, hold extra 5 sec. Raise window fully up, hold button extra 5 sec. Repeat for other window.

Others talk about 15seconds and waiting for beeps. Don't start the engine.

Fixed it!!

Decided to try the 'global open' function from the key fob just for luck...... and the driver's window opened and the passenger window 'twitched'!!

So, thinking about 'resets' I just opened and closed the passenger door to drop and rise the window, locked it, double press to unlock, hold for the global open and.....

....both driver's and passenger windows opened!!

woohoo!!

No idea of the root cause, but both windows are back to normal operation from the switches, door open/close and from the key fob.
