MSV Helmet regs

Hi all, not done a trackday in a while and was about to book a session at Brands but was jut wondering if they have tightened up their helmet regs of late, my last time there was about 6 years ago and I got away with wearing a motocross helmet which I know loads of circuits hate people wearing.

Any ideas if MSV want you to have an MSA approved lid these days and are really strict on it? Happy to shell out for one as the mini is being built with track days as its focus so the right kit will have to be bought anyway in the long term.

Cars: All Participants must wear a suitable, correctly fitted and securely fastened crash helmet. For open top vehicles a
full face helmet is required. If MSV is of the view that a Participant’s crash helmet is not suitable, it may require the
Participant to hire a helmet from MSV at the then standard hire rate or, if no suitable helmet is available, exclude the
Participant from any circuit activity.

Bikes: All Participants must wear a suitable, correctly fitted and securely fastened full face crash helmet, which must
comply with current ACU/FIM standards.

A bit grey then, would be nice if they let you know what they might deem unacceptable.

You'll be fine with a normal bike helmet on MSV days. I wouldn't wear a motocross style helmet, it's gets too much attention, it looks 'odd'. Someone I know saw someone being told recently to remove their motocross helmet, but i can't remember who he said the organiser was.

Yeah at the moment you're still fine with a proper motorbike one.

I used my full face bike helmet which was fine & have a motocross helmet for passengers which has also been fine, have used it at Brands track days for the last 2 years.

Don't think you'll ever have a problem with that.

MSV and others do state that any open top car requires a full face helmet apparently.

That is what it says on the MSV site but I'm not sure how rigorous they are in enforcing it. This is from their regs page:

Equipment Requirements

All drivers and passengers must wear a suitable, correctly fitting crash helmet and have their legs covered at all times whilst on circuit. In the case of open top vehicles, drivers must wear full face helmets and also have arms covered at all times.

Thing is I'm not sure how aggressive they are on rules and regs as I've now heard conflicting things, hence starting the thread.

bugger jost bookin in for Goodwood and noticed they want MSA approved lids there, I might just invest anyway, anyone have a recommendation for a budget full face?

I think there might be rather a big gap between what circuits say in their T&Cs and what they insist on on the day.

Very true, I reckon Goodwood will play very straight though unfortunately.

Look at the V2 Sport or Hedtec if you're looking for budget. If you can try one on before buying as fit and comfort are key.

Can't believe they can make a helmet this cheap. Would be fine for any car trackday.

Even comes for a replacement visor and bag. A chap I took around Silverstone within the past 2 weeks had one, you know what?, it looked fine!

I think they have to look at the whole car.
An MX5 can pass industry crash tests, some of th kitcars may not?
As mentioned I have never been challenged for past two yrs.
Open face is more comfortable I find.

Reply to m@1975. V2 or hedtec are ideal. try before you buy if you can. both distributors are really friendly and let me try. hedtec didnt fit my head (bit like difference with bell arai)but excellent customer service. got the v2 pro in end, girlfrind had £400 worth of bell. when comparing side by side not a lot of difference. im sure someone will say there is loads. had it for a year of racing / trackdays and wearing fine and at half the price. Maybe it is just the re-sellers markup that makes others so expensive (hedtec and V2 have no middle men)
