Jaguar World says "The S type received a facelift by Ian Callum in 2004.........Plus thanks to a revised pulley system to the supercharger, the 4.2 produced another 20bhp". Didn't know that, did anyone else?

I thought that the more powerful 4.2 litre supercharged engine came in for the aluminium XKR, which was quoted at 420 bhp rather than 400. That would have been early 2007, ie a fraction too late for use in the S-Type. I don't know whether other 4.2 R models, like the XJR which ran to 2008 benefitted from the same engine, but they were still advertised as having 400 bhp. Who is to say it wasn't used?

I alway thought all STR's were 400bhp, either Jaguar World is wrong or they know something we don't.

The 4Lt engine in the XKR and XJR was rated at 370BHP with a 6" pulley

The 4.2Lt engine in the XKR,XJR and the S-Type was rated at 400BHP with a 6.5" pulley

I've never heard of a 4.2Lt 420BHP engine from Jaguar

Jaguar added VVT to the 4.2 SC cars, and claimed from then 420 bhp. But I thought that was more around 2007 something, not 2004.

Correct. I will have a look at some of my old XKR catalogues - the X150 XKR was I am sure quoted as having 420 bhp.

From time to time I read stuff in JW that I'm positive isn't correct. Still a good mag though.

One airbox = 400bhp (4.2 SC in S-type and X350)

Two airboxes = 420bhp (4.2 SC in X150)

Trust me...

Good point, that is probably also why a K&N panel filter already makes a improvement on the 1filter systems.
