Having one for breakfasat, one for lunch and going hardcore at the gym...Then a normal tea as such

Is this a good idea?

Anyone had any experience?

I used them for dinner (launch) in my original challenge thread and achieved a good result with the training. I'm personally in two minds about them but overall I think they can be useful!

I'm currently on a calorie restricted diet and I find them useful for one meal replacement as they can fill you up OK and give a good hit of carbs and protein without masses of calories.

I think for one meal they're fine, but more than that and it's be a bit samey and probably nowhere near as good as small, thought out homemade stuff.

OP, I've been looking in to the MRP for breakfast & lunch for a few weeks to help me lean up and feed the muscles (just started doing lots of cardio/body weight stuff). I just got a pack of PHD nutrition diet whey, it was highly recommened by v.ripped chap in healthstore over maximuscle, muscletech stuff. It appears to have everything in it and it's quite a bit thicker than the other stuff so should fill you up nicely.

[Thread HiJack Mode On]

Hope the OP doesn't mind.

I could really use some help with this,

I've been considering using meal replacement shakes for a while now. Since I started working as a driver, I manage to put on 30kg, in 18 months.

Time to cook my own meals, is inexistent, as I'm working around 16hrs a day.

Are these replacements really worth it?
Side effects?

Hi guys,
Update on the PHD Nutrition diet whey/MRP. Had one last night after run/bodyweights and on its own with just water I think you will struggle to have these as a breakfast & lunch alternative. Today I have added a single scoop of quaker oats (to the 2 scoops of whey) and fat free milk to the mix and it's a much better replacement, e.g thicker, fills you up..etc. Pretty tasty too! Based on what I can find on the net each of these shakes (with oats/fat free milk) gives you:

341 Cal
39g Protein
32g Carbs
6g fat
+ stuff like CLA, flaxseed..etc

I cant believe anyone can take any form of protein shake with water. Horrible. Has to be skimmed milk for me.

Nicer with milk but some brands are OK with water, like Whey Gourmet.

I have a water-made one with a banana every day for breakfast now and it keps me going from 7.30 to 1.00pm most days. Then, often, a protein bar for lunch. Then another shake after training or even for tea, again with banana or soup or if not, one before bed. On top of that porridge some days and snackerjacks/ryvitas and low fat cheese triangles to fill me, and/or apples.

If I've kept other stuff out and can afford the calories I will top one up with milk and stretch it over two meals. Better still is when I mix the powder with porridge oats, frozen berries and half milk-half water. Lovely!

It's helped me lose a load of weight and keep my fitness and strength/muscle size up pretty well.

You realise milk contains caesin. This slows the release of proteins so not ideal for your post-workout shake. I do always have morning and bedtime shakes with milk though.

Personally I don't get so hung up on it, I think the difference isn't worth mentioning.

Fair enough. I drink shakes for a purpose not because they taste nice.

Agreed - I use Myofusion Protein Vanilla and it tastes lovely with just water and tastes superb with milk for my morning and bedtime shakes.
