Changes to MOT from 1st January 2012
Lighting
Products on the lens or light source that obviously reduce the light's intensity or change its colour will become a reason for failure – applies to front/rear position lamps, registration plate lamps, stop lamps, rear fog and direction indicators.
Headlight requirements are updated to take account of the particular characteristics of High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps.
HID headlights can cause dazzle if they are dirty or aimed too high so car manufacturers must fit headlamp cleaning and levelling systems. A car will fail if a mandatory headlamp cleaning or levelling system is missing, doesn't work or is obviously defective.
Vehicles fitted with aftermarket HID systems must also be fitted with properly working washer and levelling systems.
If a headlamp bulb is not seated correctly the resulting beam pattern will be indistinct and this will result in a test fail.
Exhaust
A catalytic converter fitted as original equipment but missing will be a reason for failure.

James where did that come from as that's nothing like the amendments given to testers.Lighting

The bad news about the requirement for a headlamp washing system and self leveling system on cars fitted with HID lights was mentioned in the latest GT40 club magazine.
The good news is that the regs also apparantly say:
" It is worthy of note that a few high performance vehicles fitted with HID headlamps, that have barely any luggage space and stiff suspension, do not require a self levelling system. Where headlamp levelling or cleaning devices are missing, and there is doubt as to whether they are required, the benefit of the doubt should be given and an advisory notice issued. "
This could be useful to show to any over zealous MOT tester as it surely applies to Nobles.

Actually the revisions given to MOT testers make absolutely no mention that washing and levelling systems have to be fitted at all. If they are fitted then they must work but even then if it isn't easy to prove that, the benefit of the doubt must be given.
