the fiat barchetta...

I hardly see it get a mention on here. Yes i know its rare, and was overshadowed by the MX-5. However It's still a pretty nice looking car, surprised me to find it was being sold until 2005.
Having a look at google, I think the original looks nicer then the facelift. The latter reminding me somewhat of a copen.
Did anyone ever own one? Or have stories about them?

One of my work buddies had one. Since we were a group of a dozen or so 20 somethings working near Dartmoor, we took turns to drive each other to a country pub (so the non-drivers could drink a few).
The Barchetta was a seriously nice place to be a passenger at 60mph down a country lane on a sunny day. Thoroughly recommended... not sure I'd want to be in one that was having a crash though but the same would be the case for many small sporty soft tops of its vintage.

I owned one for a little while, and to this date it was the best car I've ever driven. small, nippy, light...
amazing engine, great looks, just very special indeed. would probably cost twice as much if it wasn't for the badge.
honestly, not a day goes by when I don't miss it.

Had one many years ago. Loved it. Light nippy and fun. Make sure the cam variator (I think that's what it was called) has been sorted. Fit an aftermarket exhaust, lighter and sounds much nicer.
I had fun taking it to Le Mans one year. Fond memories. As said, not sure I'd want to be hit by anything, saying that I was rear ended at speed (I was stationary, he was tonking along) by a 5 series BMW.....it was nearly written off.....but not quite. I was impressed and walked away with out injury.

Take a look @ "The Girl on the Bridge" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144201/
Great film. Vanessa Paradise wins a Barchetta which Daniel Auteuil promptly crash's proving a point.

I love them! Drove one for a few days some years ago and was good fun. I think they look fantastic and have hardly aged. As with a lot of Italian cars they have their quirks, but you get really attached to them. Very original interior as well.
Despite driving an S2000 nowadays I still want a barchetta, but it will probably be a bit of a dissapointment to drive one again. From what I remember the brakes and gearbox were pretty nice and it's fairly swift and nimble.
