My brother has just taken delivery of a new XF. Because he's also somewhat sad, he was studying the fuse box set-up. Number 26 is for trailer power socket and "Road pricing system". WTF?!?!

It will be there so that it can be retrofitted without butchering the wiring should such a system be enforced. I also imagine it will be usable with insurance black boxes too. Still it does mean the if one is fitted you can just yank the fuse out!

Black boxes in European cars have had tracking software in for a while now. The original idea behind Gallileo and the European "GPS" network was that it would provide European GPS, all European cars would be picked up and GPS therefore would be automatic. Oh yes and just ever so handy for doing road pricing.

Its been like that for most of the last decade.

It will be another 10yrs before Gallileo is done properly. Its why road pricing keeps getting dropped, then discussed, then dropped. It should be simple, no infrastructure needed, but as the sats arent in space to do it yet, then it comes back to building road network infrastructure. Expensive, etc, etc. So the idea gets dropped again.
