moving abroad - what to do with the car?
Discussion
So I'm going to be moving abroad for a couple of years to do a masters degree in Sweden.
The thing is, I'm not sure what to do when it comes to my car. Its an Alfa 156 with the 2.5 v6 that I paid a little over the odds for last year, and I've since had to get a bunch of things sorted on it (nothing unusual just tyres radiator, exhaust etc.) So over the last year I've spent a combined total of around 2800 on getting the car and doing the work. Selling it here would get back maybe 1200
Out there an LHD version would be worth 3000 to 3500 from the looks of it. Dont know how popular RHD would be and so how much it would be worth?
As I'd not have a fulltime job it will have to go unfortunately but would here or there be better? The only reference Ive found to getting it registered out there suggests it would cost 600 but I dont know what that would entail.
Anyone got any thoughts?

Either park it up for when you come back (if you really want to keep it) or just sell the thing.
Depending on where you're off to in Sweden you're likely to either not need a car at all, or if you do it won't be an Alfa.
I was in Stockholm not that long ago. It's amazing the number of Saabs and Volvos on the roads.

It won't be worth anything in Sweden, with the wheel on the wrong side.
Importing it will cost itro 300 quid. But you need to add on the cost of getting it there, some new headlights, swapping around the fog light (if there's only one on the right hand side - or removing the fog light, since it's not a legal requirement).

Thanks for the advice everyone, I was hoping it would be a case of it being worth about the same out there as here plus the cost of conversion so I'd get a nice road-trip with it to take it out there.
Guess I'll have to keep an eye out for something cheap and LHD, as I don't think I could really fit all my stuff into a plane baggage.

I suppose it depends on your stuff, but there are freight companies that will sell you space in a container or similar.Guess I'll have to keep an eye out for something cheap and LHD, as I don't think I could really fit all my stuff into a plane baggage.
If you're talking furniture etc, it might just be cheaper to do the ikea thing. Have a think.
If you really need to, there's always a long ferry ride, or a long drive and a plane ride back for you.
