It could just be me, but having covered a few thousand miles over the last couple of weeks, there is a proliferation of cars with the left rear tail light out. Does anyone know why?

It's the first stage of an alien plan to take over the world. The drivers of the cars with the faulty tail lights are all aliens, the blown bulb is the recognition signal, so they know who's an alien, and who's an Earthling. Honest.

Probably because the left hand side of the car hits more potholes than the RH side

Could be? my N/S front sidelight goes 3 or 4 times a year, the O/S is still on the same bulb it started with 3 years ago.

I'm not agreeing with the OP but I recently changed some front struts on an older car (94) and all the nuts, bolts etc were significantly more seized/rusted on the N/S. I can put this down to the N/S going through a lot more crap and dirt off the roads.
Not sure if it would affect bulbs though?

I now finally understand. Thank you Graham; strum a Vinnie Moore in celebration.
