Got one of these when they were on offer http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/... It's not properly mounted, but it seems secure enough simply jammed down the side of the seat.
I've got a smallish powder one.
I used cable ties to fasten the bracket to the passenger seat adjuster handle. The extinguisher just clips in and has a couple of bits if padding taped on it to prevent it from moving about - it basically sits in the bracket firmly held between the floor and the front of the passenger seat. Works pretty well as it's reachable from the driver's seat (can be removed with a little pull). It's also out of the way when carrying a passenger (below their legs). It also doesn't come loose - well it hasn't in a couple of years and several trackdays.
Having said that, powder ones are not great - very unlikely to really help if a fire does start. The residue they leave behind is also supposed to be pretty corrosive/generally not good for the car.
Best solution is a proper plumbed-in gas system with discharge nozzles in the cabin and the engine bay but I remember looking at these and they are pretty expensive to both fit and regularly maintain...

They need servicing every 2 years (£40) and can be refilled if activated (£95).
