My friend's son was nearly abducted outside his school yesterday, and luckily someone got a picture of the car including the registration plate.

This car has been seen in the area several times and the guy got out of the car and physically attacked his son also.

The police are not being overly helpful mad and there are now understandably lots of worried parents.

How, "theoretically" could he find out any details of the owner of the car? I'm not sure if I'd be allowed to post the picture up?

Any ideas people?

If somebody is actually running about snatching kids there's a good chance they've got fake or cloned plates on the car.
Seems odd the police arn't interested.

You can request the owner details from the DVLA though I'm unsure they would give you them under these circumstances. Also that would only give you the registered keeper who might not be the driver etc. You could do a check using a car parts website that requires the numberplate to confirm that the plate belongs on the car that has been seen.

I'm sure the OP could come up with a reason that isn't "I want to bash his paedo head in". Maybe fabricate something like you are looking to buy it and want to check details marry up or something? I don't know what would be best to be honest.

Surely the police will have gone round for a word?

As above, make up a reason and call the DVLA.

Fair point about the registered keeper not being the driver etc, but it's a worrying dilemma due to the fact that this nutcase is still at large.

The car is an 05 plate, yet is a mark 4 shape Astra. I didn't think they were registered as far on as this?

It could be a car that's been registered late, totally understand how worrying it must be and in similar circumstances I might be tempted to find the creep. However when you take the law in to your own hands things can and do go wrong which could end you/your friend in more trouble than the scum you're looking for.

As above OP, try putting the reg into this. https://www.mycarcheck.com/

ETA just looked, and apparently that generation of Astra was built until 2004, so possible that it was a late registration? and even if the RK was not the driver, chances are, if the plate and car marry up, they will know who was driving.
