Liam Doran totals GT-R at the 'ring

PH looks on as rallycross star makes an expensive mistake in his tuned Nissan

PH has, as you'll have seen, been at the 'ring today and so has British X Games winner Liam Doran. His day ended a little more dramatically than ours though, a red flag for the Destination Nurburgring day bringing the event to a premature halt after a spectacular crash that totally obliterated Doran's tuned Nissan GT-R.

Liam's GT-R earlier today...
Liam's GT-R earlier today...
Doran was apparently running down the pit straight of the GP circuit alongside a heavily tuned Corvette and, according to the driver of the latter, when he braked for the tight hairpin at the end Doran came past with his foot still hard on the gas. And at that point all the rallycross skills in the world weren't going to save him.

Though a road car, Doran's Litchfield tuned GT-R was - emphasis on the was - apparently running around 650hp and, with no hope of stopping, the car was catapulted through the catch netting and ended up on its roof. Doran was apparently unhurt, despite the fact the car wasn't caged or fitted with harnesses, and is one lucky man given the state of the car.

...and after he somewhat overshot his braking
...and after he somewhat overshot his braking
Like true paparazzi PH managed to sneak a couple of pics of the wrecked car before it was covered over...

Let's hope he has better luck at Pike's Peak in his RS200. Just remember Liam - no catch netting there.

So his insurance won't pay out at all?

Damn, that's an expensive lack of skill.

Glad you're ok Liam. Oh well, order a new one. It's only a car.

Bit of a tool not having insurance on something with so much money and time invested in it. Glad he's okay though!

You cannot get ring insurance as far as I am aware. Anyone who goes there does so knowing the risks I'd have thought.

Not sure a lack of skill is something you could accuse Liam of, given what he does as a day job...

... A surfeit of bravery, perhaps...

Or just stupidity, you'd think a racing driver would know where to brake... The story gives the impression he was trying to prove a point to the Corvette and failed....

Glad he's okay, but is that a lack of skill, a lack of judgement or just bad luck? He's obviously a bloody good driver and on track all race drivers, even the best ones crash. Shows how strong a GTR is though.

Lack of judgement probably.

At least he's ok.

Ring insurance, sounds like what you get if you go to Barrymore's for a party.

Shame about the GTR, but he lives to regret it, many dont.
