The waiting is the hardest part...

Well I recently have an interview and think that it went very well. I was expecting to hear back at some point this week. Naturally, I am stting my pants over this as it's something that I really want. Fingers crossed they come back and tell me that I have it.

How do you deal with the 'waiting'? What do you prepare for? Good news/bad news? It's a large step up in pay and will open up a lot of doors.

I need the wisdom of PH to put my mind at rest...

Nah, it's something out of you control, so don't get stressed about it. I've had great interviews with a "no thanks" and what I thought were dreadful ones with a "yes please".

Difficult I know, but never have so much hanging on the success of one interview. Always have an overlap of options so you are in a position of strength rather than weakness; it will show at interview if you look/sound desperate. Good luck!

The interview went well and there always are other options. My issue is that it is within the correct security field that I want to be in (IT) and is reasonably local to me.

The person who is making the final decision is possibly busy with other projects and may not have got round to reviewing the candidates' interviews. You know how it is.

The correct procedure is to assume that you have not got it, and take it from there, do all the other job searching that is available to you. If you get some good news in the meantime, great, otherwise you haven't lost anything.

It may be that you're not the first choice of candidates, but they are waiting to see of #1 accepts or not.

That was my experience over a three month period. If they were interested in progressing the application they got back to you quickly. If you didn't hear, then in a week or so you got the rejection.

This applied to both corporates and recruitment bods.

Perhaps the grad scheme mill is different, in that case. Everything takes forever!

Thanks for the advice guys. Some people were, erm, a little blunt. I've come to the realisation that there is nothing really I can do.

Let's hope I hear something shortly. It's a busy place, so maybe they are just taking there time to reply! If it comes towards the end of the week then I shall be making an offer towards the company with regards to salary etc.

I would wait until you have heard something from them before doing that.

Have a Plan B if it doesn't work out. That way you won't fall to pieces if Plan A isn't to be.

However, I wish you the best of luck. Give it at least a few days first. IME a week is perfectly normal, especially if your assignment requires various interal approval sign-offs before HR can make the call.

Unfortunately I never got the job. It was a position advertised within AVG and the feedback, although brief, seems to relate towards my technical and customer facing experiences.

I'm absolutly gutted.

Genuinely really sorry to hear that.

However, the best thing to do is get back on the horse asap and sniff out more jobs. Thinking about why they didn't want you or where you went wrong won't help you.

I've had a look around already and in Lincolnshire it is very sparse on anything regarding IT. I would've been travelling 80 miles a day for this one. I'll be calling the agency and then AVG tomorrow to discuss further what they wanted from me. They have already confirmed by email that they will hold my CV on file, for what it's worth.

'Sparse' could mean a barrier to some or an opportunity to others; what's your view? Good luck either way.
