Prices v supply, wonder what the long term prices on 964's will be like in 5-10 years?

Not great from an investment standpoint but will it shouldn't be epensive motoring. Very hard to break even after 5 - 10 years if you drive it regularly and if you dont drive it much and store it away then it will need at a pretty decent refresh after 5 years of sitting still.

Having said that, its a less "worse" investment than say a 997 would be.

Unless you own one of the more exotic models like the RS then i wouldnt even think of a car as a potential investment.

Investment?

possibly maybe not.

For me I willbe happy for it to stay depreciation proof. If it does not? who cares.

Yep, concise and to the point!

An 'investment' though? Not unless you mean in pleasure driving

Put your cash in a bank you get 0.5 per cent.
Put your money in government bonds and it will disappear (think about the Greek bonds haircut).
Put your money in equities and pray that bankers behave.
Put your money in a classic Porsche, it will probably not appreciate (except if this is a well sought model) but at least you will smile when you drive it.

You can get 3%+ from the banks very easily as long as you move it every year.

But I agree with the sentiment.

3 ways to make 964's an investment:

buy all the 964's and set your own price in the used market
get the Queen to ride in yours during the jubilee parade whilst opening the Olympics
keep it in mint condition for another 50 yrs with no miles but plenty of use

these plans could work even better with other models, so beware of cunning 996 owners...

Like all air cooled stuff the very best, good genuine rot free cars will continue to rise in price. Add in the fact that there were not that many 964's sold, we were in the last recession will also help make it so.

And this is the issue. Try finding a 964 c2 manual in good condition - it is very difficult. Done a couple of PPIs recently, one for a customer who we are going to do a wide body conversion for (no chance of finding a 964 Celeb these days) and for £13-£15k they needed loads of work.

With such a small supply of good ones, imo prices will continue to rise. Even buying a dog and doing a full renovation should mean not too much loss on investment.

A couple of years they were 10-15k. Now they seem to be £15-20k+.

Been trying to find one for 2 years now and still cannot find one.

This! ^^^^^

I started watching the classifieds last summer and searched properly from last October with a £15k-£17k budget.

All the cars I seen needed £5k spending instantly and even more if mint bodywork was to be high on the agenda.

I've since given up. After selling a very good 4 owner C2 manual coupe, 4 years ago for £12k, I can't get my head around paying £20k for a one.

The money I haven't yet spent will now go towards what I get when I sell my Turbo (will be in the classifieds next month, if I get time) and I may be leaving the fold for a couple of years.

Basically if you're going in search of a 964 these days be prepared for a project and even then, probably a long search for it too.

I have just bought a very tidy 964 C2 which I think I have paid top money for (997 money by the time it has been got ready for me) but it is beautiful, I have been searching for a 964 for 9 months,, will post some pictures soon

Sounds great! Make sure and post those pics.

..and regards the investment potential, while it's not going to bring forward your retirement age, I would say good, manual C2 Coupes will continue a steady rise. They ain't making any more of them and there weren't that many to start out with.

Was not looking to make money, just did not want to lose as much as I was going to if I bought a 997

I decided I wanted one in November, good year in the business and all that. Set a £20k budget. Saw a midnight blue 1991 C2 manual with sports seats, Cups, mirrors and LSD (rare!) go onto PH at 0830 Monday morning, I phoned the guy at 0845 phone, it went into GT One in Chertsey for an inspection on Thursday and was bought by Friday lunchtime driving.
