Dunno if anyone else has done this but the unit just about fits on top of the plastic housing round the steering column (obscures the handbrake and ice lamps)...seems to work ok too. Bit neater than dash top.

Have just ordered one, this seems a good position for it

If you put it in this position, would it 'see' enough sky with the roof up?

I presume that it needs a link with at least three satellites to calculate its position, and thereby notify you when you're getting near a camera.

My Chimaera is back at Ferhursts at the moment, having one or two things done to it, one of which is a switched live feed to the Geodesy holder being run up through the split in the dashboard top. I have glued some grip mat to the under side of the holder so that it doesn't slide around on the dash, and when I come to sell the car, there won't be any damage to the dash top, and the wire can be removed if necessary.

Pupp, have one of these in my 450 fitted it between the right of the speedo/rev counter housing on the dash and the A-pillar, works well too.

Have you come across any camera’s it didn’t know about yet?

Right of the instruments was my next option if column top didn't work. So far, so good though and the mute button is close to hand...not sure about the looks though. Certainly no problems with it going off line so seems to be getting ample signal. Haven't come across any unwarned cameras yet but back to backs (common round here) don't give much warning of the second of the pair. Anyone tried altering the factory settings for volume and range... I tried and although Morpheous confirmed the alterations would be downloaded next update I didn't notice any difference?

Haven't tried changing any of the settings as the 0.6 mile range and volume seem fine. I know what you mean about back-2-back camera's the M25 is a nightmare and the Geo goes off non stop from j10 to j16.

I upgraded mine to Geodesy Plus a few months ago, so it now only sounds if I'm exceeding the speed limit.

However, I had to call Geodesy a few times because the limits that they set the thing to sound at aren't always accurate, so be careful! Having said that, they did manage to upgrade the information on the system fairly quickly when I pointed out the error.

The other part of the upgrade that didn't seem to work was the autoranging feature. As you probably know, the idea is that the faster you're travelling, the earlier the Geodesy starts to warn you of a camera location, (sorry, accident blackspot!). However, Geodesy never actually got it to work on mine, and it only ever gave me 0.1 of a mile warning to the camera. This is fine if you're only doing 30mph, but at 70mph, you don't have long to slow down! (By the way, the 70mph was east bound on the M4 in a 50 limit, not in a built ip area). In the end I got fed up messing about and just told them to switch off the autoranging.

One final point is that I was one of the very first people to get a Geodesy, (almost two years ago), and when I first had it, I was regularly finding cameras that weren't logged on the system. As instructed, I pressed the button as I passed them, to record their location and pass the details back to Geodesy when I next updated the unit with the supplied modem. However, having 'reported' at least six camera's, I never once received the £50 'reward' that they claim to offer.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with the unit and for added protection, my Chimaera has also just been fitted with the SLD920 laser diffuer.

I had the same problem with my GeoPlus (M25 & M4 out of London are nightmares for alarms!) so I phoned them for a chat.

They were very helpful and but there is not much they can do - they have to set the 'cameras' on the M25 to be 20mph so even AutoRanging (which works fine on mine) is not much use. They did say they were looking into all options - but until they get the ability to 'touch' the unit on the fly (similar to BMW? using Classic radio sub-frequencies to real-time update their nav systems) - which would mean a hardware change - they are stuck.

Still wouldn't do without mine now!

Fits perfectly on the dash of my A6 (got Audi to perm fit it) just not found anywhere I'd be happy with so far in the Chimaera (wiht our without the special aerial).....
